About the Variety

This micro-lot features the Kenia variety, a cultivar named for its genetic lineage traced back to selections developed in Kenya. Known for its lively acidity, aromatic complexity, and fruit-forward character, Kenia thrives in the Central Valley’s volcanic soils. In this natural process lot, the variety expresses itself with vibrant fruit tones, layered sweetness, and a unique complexity that distinguishes it as one of El Centro’s standout offerings.

About the Producer

The El Centro farm is part of Brumas del Zurquí, a family-owned group of farms spanning four generations of coffee producers. Located in Costa Rica’s Central Valley at 1,600 masl, the farm benefits from volcanic soils, cool weather, and a focus on regenerative practices. With deep roots in the Gómez Chávez family and guided today by Juan Ramón Alvarado Rodríguez, Brumas del Zurquí is a leader in Costa Rican specialty coffee production.

About Natural Processing

In the natural process, whole ripe cherries are hand-picked and dried in the sun. The fruit remains on the seed during drying, allowing sugars and mucilage to become infused the beans, enhancing sweetness and body. At El Centro, careful turning and monitoring ensure consistency throughout the drying cycle. The result is a cup that emphasizes fruit-forward intensity and sweetness.

About Costa Rican Coffee

Costa Rica has developed a reputation both for high quality coffee and for innovation – a winning combination. These factors along with Costa Rica’s quality socio-economic infrastructure programs such as universal healthcare, high education levels, sophisticated agronomy and research, and well-regulated agricultural sustainability programs certainly contribute to the high cost of its coffee. Additionally, Costa Rican producers receive nearly 80% of the FOB value of the coffee, guaranteed.
